The objective of the Transnational Law Program is to provide an opportunity for students to obtain a transnational legal education and to be trained as transnational lawyers.
Trento Faculty of Law offers this program in close cooperation with Washington University School of Law (WUSOL) in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA (http://law.wustl.edu/tlp/). This cooperation is extended also to the Universities of Utrecht (The Netherlands), Queen's Belfast University (Northern Ireland) and Católica University in Lisbon (Portugal).
For Trento students the TLP program is intended to prepare lawyers for the globalizing legal market, enabling them to be admitted at the same time to the “Bar exam” and to the “esame per l’abilitazione alla professione forense” in order to provide professional legal services in both the United States and Italy.
The program will be characterized by the following:
- students enrolled in the third year of the Laurea in Giurisprudenza program and admitted to WUSOL will attend three semesters of classes in the United States: one semester as exchange students and afterwards two semesters of the Master in Law (LLM) program;
- participants will be required to attend a summer or winter TLP program (for 2011 see the Trento Summer school) or to spend a period of research in Utrecht, Lisbon or Belfast Universities;
- Trento TLP students graduates will receive two final degrees: one from WUSOL (LLM) and one from Trento (Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza).
