Full professor of History of Political Thought, Paolo Carta currently teaches Leadership and Governance, Political Theory and History of Law at the Faculty of Law and at the School of International Studies in Trento.
He authored several publications dedicated to legal pluralism, modern legal and political thought, history of diplomacy, leadership and rule of law.
He has taught as visiting professor and held conferences at many European and US institutions and universities, such as the École Normale Supérieure, the University of Oxford and the Columbia University in New York.
In addition to his role as professor at the Faculty of Law, Carta is a member of the administrative board at the Italian Association of Historians of the Legal Thought and a fellow of the American Political Science Association. Currently, he is a member of the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (GEV Anvur) for the area dedicated to political and social sciences (code 14) and has been a member of the executive board at the National Scientific Qualification of the Italian Ministry for Education and Resarch. He is involved in several scientific committees of journals, among which Laboratoire Italien and the Italian Storia del Pensiero politico.
